My Fave Makeup Trends

Non-touring, Glitter Tears, Fake Freckles, Igari Makeup and more! We all know that Instagram brows are out and so is the overly done Kardashian contour (but don't let that stop you if you dig it ok) I'm going to give you a round up of what's trending and hot in the Asian and Western beauty world and some of my favorite makeup trends to date.

Let's start with these!

Fake Freckles
Now you don't have to go through the trouble of drawing on fake freckles like I did in my photo below. They now sell temporary tattoos to give you rub-proof fake freckles for the summer! Fake freckles are trendy for Asians going for a more Eurasian look/effect. Don't ask me why, I'm just telling you this is pretty big :)))

Just apply on your cheeks/nose , wet then peel off like a regular temporary tattoo!

Igari Makeup or the Hangover look
This isn't really new in the Asian makeup scene but I really love this trend. Igari makeup started in Japan, popularized by renowed Japanese makeup artist Igari  Shinobu. The key point of this look is flushed cheeks. But the blush on is applied like an inverted triangle to mimic a baby's flushed cheeks. Flawless and natural looking skin is important. A dewy finish is preferred and eye makeup is kept very minimal and natural looking while glossy/clear pink lips add to the whole innocent flushed look. You can find various tutorials on this looks on Youtube with different takes on how to go about it. I prefer using a cream blush like Canmake's Cream Cheek Blusher to pull off this look.

Natural Soft Focus Eyebrow
By now I'm sure most of you are now familiar with the Korean straight or archless eyebrows. There's a new trend in Korea and Asia which most celebrities are now scrambling for. It aims for a soft focus effect and a slight curve on the edges. There are no harsh lines involved. This shape and effect is aimed to soften up any look and make anyone look younger and more feminine.  Make sure to use an eyebrow product that is 1-2 shades lighter than your original eyebrow color. I think an eyebrow powder works best for this look. Try Dolly Wink Eyebrow Powder, it's super pigmented and they have different shades to suit everyone.

Coral, Pink, Rust and Red Eyeshadow Makeup
This is very popular in Korea and Japan since it looks gorgeous with their fair skintones. I love how fresh and feminine this looks. Just a tip for those with more tanned skin tones is to apply a white or light nude pencil liner as primer to make the eyeshadow colors "pop" more on dark skin. My fave product for making any colorful eyeshadow pop is to apply a thin coating of Eye of Horus Goddess Pencil in Selenite White or Sahara Nude. It makes any color eyeshadow stay vibrant and budge-proof the whole day! You can pair this with gradient lip makeup for a more youthful and innocent look.

In western makeup Corals, Rust and Red are also used as eyeshadow. The trick to pulling of these shades is to use a good corrector and concealer on your eye area and under eyes before applying eyeshadow. My top picks for correcting is a peach toned concealer like Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Honey and topping it off with yellow toned Custard after (these are my HG concealers from Nars!)

Metallic Lips and Lip Highlighters
This is obviously going to be big since the release of Kylie Jenner's Metallic Liquid Lipsticks. Jeffree Star Cosmetics is following suit with the release of a metallic peach gold lippie. Oh and Ofra Cosmetics has a gold and silver version too! This look was also flaunted by none other than the fabulous Queen Bey in one of her Lemonade videos.

Cobalt Blue Liner
The color may look intimidating to pull-off but this works so well with all skin tones. I've tried this liner on myself and others and it looks gorgeous! Just make sure to keep the rest of the face neutral and keep the focus on the lids. Watch our for Pixi's Endless Silky Eye Pen in Cobalt Blue!

Glitter Tears
This trend has been spotted on the runaway, Coachella and most of the beauty gurus have tried this trend (well the cool ones anyway) This might not be too wearable for most of us but I am super obsessed with this makeup look! You can make it ethereal, glam, edgy, cute, goth or grunge depending on the colors that you use.

Non-Touring and Brushed up Eyebrows
Hallelujah our skin can finally breathe! This is the opposite of the Kardashian/Hudabeauty look. Non-touring is a hybrid of the no-makeup look and strobing which focuses on healthy, illuminated and glowing skin that doesn't look overly made up or highlighted (keep away from the Maryloumanizer ok!!!) The trick is to use an illuminating primer if you've great skin, a smoothing one if yours is bumpy and apply a light tinted moisturizer to even out your skintone. Use a cream or liquid highlighter and highlight your face sparingly. I think the best way to pull off this look is to invest in a good skincare regimen really or get help from a trusted dermatologist. Makeup is fun but it feels so good to just wake up with great skin so you can go without it when you're lazy.

Tired of Instagram eyebrows? So am I. You would need a spooley brush plus a good eyebrow gel to brush up your eyebrows and keep everything in place. Got stubborn brow hairs? Use a hairspray on your spooley brush instead. You may use an eyebrow tattoo pen to fill in brows lightly in short upward strokes. I love how soft and pretty this looks for those blessed with full and luscious arches. I won't be doing this anytime soon though since I have sparse brows.

White Eyeliner
Nothing looks as fresh and edgy as a white liner. It's surprisingly versatile and can be worn a multitude of ways depending on your mood. My favorite is the Eye of Horus Selenite White one because it is so pigmented and it doesn't budge when it sets. Not all white eyelines are made that way.

Colorful Mascara
A bold, bright color on your lashes can make your eye color pop and make you look instantly cooler. Pop Beauty is coming out with their Lashy Flashy mascaras with bright and vibrant Teal, Purple and Blue shades. Watch out for it!

What do you think? Which trend would you love to try out first?

Take care! xx
